Course Description

This course is a hands-on overview of current web development. Emphasis is on coding and debugging valid HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), but the course also includes design principles and introductory graphics production to encourage attractive, usable design. Mobile development is introduced. Student use industry standard development environments to create websites.

CIS 211 is offered online or face-to-face (partially online). Students need to have access to a reliable computer with a high bandwidth Internet connection. Campus labs offer these resources for students who do not have them at home.

What you can do before class begins

  • Use WebAdvisor to add the course if you have not done so. Please do this ASAP -- this will add you to the roster. You cannot add the class after the program adjustment period.
  • Please confirm your WebAdvisor email address.

  • Review the syllabus.
  • Purchase textbook and skim the topics and first chapter.
  • Work through the readiness tutorials 1-6 and create a study schedule. Schedule 5-9 hours a week to complete class work.
  • Jodi uses Canvas for class management (quizzes, grades, turning in work, discussion). Canvas will be  set up the weekend before classes begin.  
  • Install Firefox and/or Chrome.
  • Look for a welcome email once the semester begins (sent to your WebAdvisor email address by default). Let Jodi know if you can't login by the first day of class or if you don't get a welcome email.
